The first stop for any student new to Edinburgh has to be Rose Street, and Milnes Bar is the perfect student pub that's right in amongst the action. It's a poet (and historian's) dream, allegedly where Scottish literates have gathered for over 100 years. With its checkerboard flooring around the bar, plenty of cosy nooks to settle in and live sport through Sky Sports and TNT Sports, it's a lovely student pub for great drinks, tasty food and that city centre vibe.
Or, for student pubs closer to the University of Edinburgh, why not pop into the Beehive Inn or the White Hart Inn, both situated on the Grassmarket? Both pubs have served many famous guests throughout the years, with the White Hart Inn claiming to be the city's most ancient tavern! Plus, a seat in the beer garden of the Beehive Inn offers incredible views of Edinburgh Castle... And perfectly-poured pints, of course.
Near Edinburgh Waverly? Head to the Malt Shovel Inn, a cosy student pub on Cockburn Street, or the Advocate with live music every Friday!
And, if you're further out from the city centre, there's Platform 5 in Haymarket, the Grosvenor in the West End, the Shakespeare and the Festival in the Exchange and the iconic Doctors on Teviot Place – a must-visit for any medicine students!
Student pubs in Glasgow
If you're studying in Glasgow's incredible city centre, Drouthy's is your must-visit – especially if you're a karaoke lover! With karaoke every Friday and Saturday, a pub quiz on Sunday and live music every Monday, Drouthy's is a go-to all weekend long. Overlooking George Square, Drouthy's also shows plenty of live sport and serves up iconic Belhaven beers from its well-stocked bar.
The Rhoderick Dhu and the Maltman are two friendly pubs perfect for students in Blythswood, alongside Cairns Bar on Argyle Street, while Molly Malone's sits just off Sauchiehall Street and is renowned for the best pints of Guinness in town... For students over in Paisley, The Gabriels and the Craig Dhu have got you covered! Student pubs in Stirling
Down in Stirling's Lower Town, The City Walls is an aptly named student bar situated in the walls of the city! Now that's not something you see every day, eh? With pool tables, live sports and plenty of beers and ciders to party the week away, the City Walls is a brilliant pub for students in Stirling.
Molly Malones in Stirling's Old Town is the place to be for any Irish students missing home, while No. 2 Baker Street offers street dining and a delicious food menu to get you ready for the night.
And, who could forget the Cold Beer Company? It's one of the best student pubs in the city, with a big, vibrant atmosphere right in the city centre and plenty of Sky Sports and TNT Sports action every day. The Cold Beer Company has a covered beer garden to gossip away in, and the walls are adorned with sports memorabilia. In our opinion, it's the best pub to visit before a night at the clubs.
Student pubs in St Andrews
Just outside of campus, The Central Bar lies on the corner between College Street and Market Street, with a top-notch range of Scottish gins to enjoy. A truly homely and local pub, The Central Bar is certain to become a home away from home during your studies in St Andrews, and it's perfectly placed for post-lecture glasses of wine or cocktails before hitting the student union.
The Whey Pat Tavern on Argyle Street is a great student pub for postgraduates, offering a more refined atmosphere with all of the drinks one could wish for, and live folk music every week! And, Molly Malones (there seems to be a theme here) on Alexandra Place is your pub for live sport, shots and cheap cocktails. Molly Malones is an 18+ venue only, making it a great place for students looking to let loose. Did someone say party?
Student pubs in Aberdeen
Across Aberdeen's historic city centre, there are plenty of student bars and pubs, so take your pick! From The Northern Bar, a firm favourite amongst students, to the Old Blackfriars with history pouring from the 700 year old walls, a pub quiz on Tuesdays and poker nights on Sundays and Wednesdays, to The Wild Boar with its stunning vaulted ceiling and (of course) another Molly Malones for all those Irish vibes we know and love, you're spoilt for choice whether it's live sport, a fun night or just drinks. We're quite jealous of you students in Aberdeen, actually.
