Play darts the right way
It was proven over a century ago that darts is a game of skill, not just chance, which means if your game isn't quite where you'd like it to be, some tips and tricks are sure to help. Here are a few ways to perfect that aim and score a little better in our pubs with dartboards.

Keep your movement to a minimum. Your arm should be the only thing that's moving, not your hips and body!

Position your elbow. Keep the elbow up so that it's pointing toward where you want your arrow to land.

Relax your hand. Don't grip the arrow too hard to create a straight, fluid line movement with your forearm and wrist.

Stand side on. This will keep your throw more consistent each time.

Keep your throwing shoulder consistently aligned with the board and the point you're trying to hit.

Darts isn't just about throwing arrows and seeing what sticks (although that technique can definitely work), it's about trying to bring down the starting total by taking turns to throw three arrows at the dart board.

Every player starts with 501 points; each shot gives you a number to subtract from that starting total.

Each segment and ring has different score values.

Score higher on the outer 'double' ring. Hit the outer ring, and you'll be scoring x2.

The inner ring is worth a huge 3x your score, but the highest score you can get is a treble 20 (worth 60 points).

Bullseye! The inner circle is worth an enormous 50 points (and a pat on the back from whoever is watching!).

Don't get too close! There are rules for how close you can get to the board. There's usually a line 2.37 metres away.
