ABOUT THE BEEHIVE

PERFECTED OVER GENERATIONS

The Beehive sits prettily on the Grassmarket, beneath the grand walls of Edinburgh Castle. Once a premium hotel and restaurant, The Beehive has long been considered a shining star of the city's Old Town district, serving refined pub food and top-quality cask ale since the mid-19th century.

A favourite among travellers, workers and the local community, the Beehive has seen more than its fair share of famous guests over the years, including Charles III and perhaps even Rabbie Burns during its days as a humble coaching inn. Today, it remains a beloved landmark in the heart of the city, with free Wi-Fi, disabled facilities, and a dog-friendly atmosphere. So, step inside and indulge in a traditional pub meal or perhaps just a few perfectly poured pints beneath Castle Rock.

THE ART OF BREWING

We are passionate about the art of brewing, so behind the bar you’ll find a wide selection of beers and fine cask ales to celebrate this much-loved craft, including regularly changing guest ales and craft beers.

All it takes is four natural ingredients–malt, hops, yeast, and water–but a truly satisfying beer also takes a barrel full of passion, care, and expertise. Let us help you find your favourite, and know that whether you're looking for a fruity IPA or the intense, silky flavours of a warm malty real ale, our friendly team is schooled in the art of the perfect serve.

WHERE EDINBURGH SETTLES IN

When The Beehive first opened its doors, it quickly earned a reputation as one of the Grassmarket’s most refined places to eat and drink. Through the decades, it became known not just for its name, but for its warmth, hospitality and character - a place where travellers rested, locals gathered, and good stories lingered long after the last dram.
